Welcome, everyone, to the 2019- 2020 school year at Cheat Lake Elementary School. Even though our students got a jump on summer, ending classes before the beginning of June, this summer has flown by. As with every summer, it has been a time of change and redesign and growth.
The most significant changes we’ve made, are the additions Kindergarten and 5th Grade classes. We now have six of each. Our enrollment jump has caused us to redefine the use of some interior space…removing a few walls, while adding a few others. With the addition of classrooms comes new staff members to address more students. These changes have been folded into our schedules and will quickly become routine for everyone.
One of the most frequent questions I’m asked by people outside the CLES family is, “Is an enrollment of over 800 students, too many?” The simple answer is, “No.” The design of our buildings allows each grade level to live and work in their own spaces, unencumbered by traffic or other interruptions of other grade levels. A walk through the halls would not offer a hint of the number of people actually working here.
Cheat Lake Elementary School students and staff follow the work of Sean Covey, as described in his book titled, “The 7 Habits of Happy Kids”. This book explains, in terms children will understand, the work of his father, Stephen Covey, author of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”, and “The Leader in Me”.
Each day, our entire school family will focus on an important aspect of these 7 Habits:
Begin With the End in Mind
Put First Things First
Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood
Sharpen the Saw
As we begin this new school year, know that we dedicate ourselves to providing a superior education to our students, in our quest to…Grow Leaders, One Child at a Time!
